The Leonard Cohen covers keep rolling in. We’ve heard Greg Dulli, Cults, Cold War Kids, and Bradford Cox deliver great performances in the Old Ideas with New Friends series, and now the Mountain Goats take a show. John Darnielle digs up “The Smokey Life” from Recent Songs.

Darnielle writes wordy, literate narratives himself, so the affinity with Cohen is obvious. He strips down to just him at a piano for the tender performance. Watch it at Vimeo.
