Living in the S.F. Bay Area, I have had the pleasure of being in the know when it comes to Nicki Bluhm and The Gramblers. The soulful, rocking Bluhm is a regular live performer who turns up at the big festivals, as a guest vocalist and headlining her own gigs. A week ago a friend of mine, who is friends with Nicki, posted her most recent “Van Session” song to his Facebook, a cover of Hall and Oates‘ “I Can’t Go For That”.

The track is Van Session #17 and was performed between shows in Phoenix, AZ and Pioneertown, CA and recorded with an iPhone. In the last few days Boing Boing and Perez Hilton have posted links to the video, blowing it up from just a few hundred views to near 600k. Along with the Hall and Oates session below, check out a couple other fun road covers with Nicki Bluhm and The Gramblers doing The Beatles‘ “Here Comes The Sun” and Whitney Houston’s “How Will I Know”.

  1. […] to create unexpected classics, it’s no surprise she’s a fan of cover songs. She used to record amazing covers with her band while driving the van, and her new album includes a powerful blast through Dan Penn’s “I Hate You” […]
