We said it in our post on their cover of Yeasayer’s O.N.E. and we’ll say it again: “Telephoned is not your average cover band.” And on Kanye West’s “All of the Lights,” Telephoned brings the elements together very differently than they did on the reggae-fied “O.N.E.” It feels like the background music to the “All of the Lights” level in the video game that Kanye would doubtless love to see made of his 35-minute long “Runaway” music video.

DJ/Producer Sammy Bananas imbues the song with inescapable digi-bongo and synth layers alongside Maggie Horn’s voice, not to mention a more rapid beat than can be found in Kanye’s original. It’s no wonder that the duo placed high up in our ranks of the Best Cover Albums of 2010, and, when it comes time to do a full album post for My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, this cover will be a strong contender alongside the numerous “Runaway” covers that have already popped up.
