MJ Lenderman and his band The Wind played a Friday night slot at Wilco‘s “Sky Blue Sky” festival in Mexico, and brought a few covers to his set.

Lenderman invited J Mascis from Dinosaur Jr to join him on a cover of Neil Young‘s “Lotta Love.” The song, which comes from Young’s 1978 album Comes a Time, originally ran 2:37. However, in Lenderman and Mascis’ hands, the song ran for over 8 minutes and featured both trading off leads. It is as much fun to watch as that sounds. (You can catch the whole thing below.) Mavis Staples Celebrates “Sad and Beautiful World” with Sparklehorse Cover

Mavis Staples has released the title track of her upcoming album, a cover of a Sparklehorse song. Staples’ cover of “Sad and Beautiful World” is subdued, and features more instrumentation than the Mark Linkous original. Her version includes a pedal steel and horns on top of a steady drum beat. Benson Boone gets clowned on, but dude can sing (and, yes, backflip). “When We Were Young” is not exactly an easy song to nail. But, at a tour stop in Columbus, he did just that—one of many covers he’s been doing on the road.

BRAINSTORM — The Boys Of Summer (Don Henley cover)

Every summer comes, inevitably, more “Boys of Summer” covers. This metal-ish version comes from German power-metal vets BRAINSTORM (all caps so you know they’re serious). Singer Andy B. The newest television series Too Much, created by Lena Dunham and her husband, musician Luis Felber, just debuted on Netflix. And the theme song is a cover featuring another couple. Waxahatchee, also known as Katie Crutchfield, and her partner Kevin Morby perform a cover of The Fray‘s “You Found Me,” for the new series. Unsurprisingly, the new cover is a more stripped-down version of the song with the focus being on the interplay between the two vocals. Continue reading »
