Frightened Rabbit has this uncanny ability to turn even the most upbeat and poppy of songs into something deep and morose. For example, when the Scottish band stopped by the triple j studio for “Like A Version,” they took Best Coast‘s love ode to California, “The Only Place,” and somehow managed to make it seem like California is mostly cloudy and dark. After a tour through the U.S., the American rockers took a romp through Australia and landed at Melbourne radio station Triple J. Australian radio station Triple J has something we here at Cover Me love called “Like A Version.” The station wrangles some great artists to interpret whatever song they feel like covering. Sharon Van Etten recently stopped in, talked about how she is touring with Nick Cave later this year, and put out a heavy rendition of Cave’s “People Ain’t No Good.” Continue reading »

Gossip (formerly known as The Gossip) is an indie punk- rock band that formed 13 years ago in Olympia, Washington. Singer Beth Ditto, guitarist Brace Paine and drummer Hannah Blilie make up the powerful three-piece act. Last month while ending up a tour down under featuring an appearance at Splendour In The Grass festival, the band stop by radio station Triple J.
