Audra Mae Covers the Association’s “Never My Love” for ‘Sons of Anarchy’

Audra Mae comes from a musical family line.  Her great grandmother, Virginia “Jimmie” Gumm, was a member of the Gumm Sisters, which also included one Francis Gumm, better known as Judy Garland. And her uncle, session musician Michael Sherwood, wrote a song that was included on Michael Jackson’s Thriller 25th Anniversary.

So it comes as no surprise that this girl from Oklahoma is beginning to make a name for herself.  She co-wrote the song “Who I Was Born to Be” along with Mark Linn-Baker (yes, the guy from TV’s Perfect Strangers), which was included on Susan Boyle’s debut album.  Miranda Lambert is currently enjoying the success of the Mae-penned “Little Red Wagon”. Amos Lee Puts on ‘Boots of Spanish Leather’ for Sons of Anarchy Soundtrack

Sons of Anarchy is a show that has always been subtly marked by its music. The soundtrack is always there, an active presence, to the extent that it’s become a trope of the show in how subdued music is so often juxtaposed against montages of deviance and brutality. (That presence was most poignantly felt in the most recent episode, which was devoid of soundtrack altogether.) Lucky for us, even when its effect within the show can be inconsistent, the music is reliably beautiful and is predominated by covers. Continue reading »
