Andre Mistier formed The Adversary after a trip to Burning Man, so for their first cover what better artist to choose than the Flaming Lips – basically the Burning Man of bands? It’s been an eventful week for David Bowie covers. Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield blew up the Internet earlier this week with his zero gravity performance of Bowie’s “Space Oddity” shot in the International Space Station. Last night on Jimmy Fallon, confetti and giant-hamster-ball lovers The Flaming Lips also performed a Bowie cover that is sure to quickly make its rounds on the world wide web. Continue reading »
Leave it to The Flaming Lips to hide USBs of new music inside an edible anatomically correct heart. The band has teamed up with Dude, Sweet Chocolate to help them release their latest, Songs of Love. Part of this bizarre release is a cover of The Beatles‘ “All You Need is Love” featuring Alex and Jade of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. The chocolate is reportedly “72% South American dark chocolate studded with hazelnut mini whoppers and waffle cone crunch,” and the cover itself is roughly 60% surreal and 40% dreamy and romantic. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the release of Deep Purple’s hard rock classic Machine Head. In recognition of Deep Purple’s influence some of rock music’s biggest names have contributed a version of their favorite track from the album for a tribute. The result is Re-Machined: A Tribute To Deep Purple’s Machine Head. There are two very differing versions of the album’s most famous track “Smoke On The Water”, one from guitar legend Carlos Santana with vocals by Jacoby Shaddix and one from alternative rockers The Flaming Lips.
