Solo artist Snail Mail (Aka LJ or Lindsey Jordan) is a US-based guitarist/singer-songwriter who seamlessly blends indie-pop sensibilities with a dark tinge of emo around the edges of their sound. Snail Mail has been performing solo since the age of 15, and her stage experience certainly shows. Recently, she paired up with This Is Lorelei’s Nate Amos to recreate “Two Legs”, which was originally found on the This Is Lorelei album Box for Buddy, Box for Star. “Two Legs (Snail Mail’s Version) is to be released inside an expanded version of the 2024 album. Baltimore’s beloved indie-rockers Snail Mail just threw the five-day Valentine Fest in their hometown venut Ottobar. The band’s Lindsey Jordan and co. performed every night with an array of special guests, and invited many of those guests up for one-night-only cover songs.

First up, Soccer Mommy joined the band on the festival’s second night to tackle Avril Lavigne’s “I’m With You.” Quiet verses exploded into a sing-along chorus that had the whole crowd belting along. Continue reading »

Arctic Monkeys – Lipstick Vogue (Elvis Costello cover)

Arctic Monkeys got a lot of attention covering the Strokes last week (especially because on his new album, Alex Turner sings: “I just want to be one of the Strokes”). But I preferred their wonderfully sleazy “Lipstick Vogue” cover, played in honor of Costello as he recovered from cancer surgery. Turner’s a product of his influences; in addition to the Strokes and Elvis, he appears to have his Nick Cave snake slither down cold. Continue reading »
