
Bauhaus‘ 9-and-a-half-minute-long debut single “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” is considered by many to be the birth of goth-rock. Though others were making dub-inspired post-punk in the UK at the time, the horror movie-influenced lyrics really stood out in 1979. Though it only charted on the UK Indie chart – and that, only well over a year after its initial release – it had a massive influence on the subject matter and vibe of subsequent goth acts.
