The Black Keys have released a new record and it’s an all-covers affair, starting with the lead-off single, “You Gotta Lose” by Earl Hooker. Peaches! is the band’s third all covers effort after the 2006 EP Chulahoma dedicated solely to Junior Kimbrough and their 2021 album Delta Kream.
The band approached the recording as loose as possible; drummer Patrick Carney suggested the ‘get all the musicians in one room and play’ idea after lead singer and guitarist Dan Auerbach‘s father began a battle with esophageal cancer. Continue reading »
Chrissie Hynde has been a rock star for more than fifty years. The Pretenders have not been together quite that long, but Hynde was already making her name as a girl about town and rock-star-in-waiting in London. She has lived the life full-time for all of that period. It is a surprise, then, that she does not fully appreciate the credit that has accrued with that history, and how people still want to hear what she has to say.
