With the 2026 World Cup almost here, some countries are sparking excitement and passion by releasing music. For Canada, that involves City and Colour collaborating with Ruby Waters to cover one of the great Canadian bands, The Tragically Hip.

“Ahead By a Century” is considered a Tragically Hip classic, so even venturing to cover it is a bold decision. City and Colour, fronted by lead singer Dallas Green, kick the song off with a great, driving beat, before Ruby Waters’ voice comes in for the second verse and chorus.

Green posted on Instagram: “To be here and to be singing one of [the Hip’s] most iconic songs, there’s a speechlessness to it.” The track was produced by Boi-1da, and proceeds from the record will go to supporting the Canadian Soccer Foundation.

Low covers

Today we place Low in the spotlight, even if the Duluth-based band has already occupied the spotlight in recent months, and for the worst of reasons: Low’s co-founder Mimi Parker passed away in November 2022, age 55. The tributes and memorials that poured out to Mimi took many beautiful forms, all of them disbelieving and heartbroken. As we sample the amazing music that she and her husband Alan Sparhawk (Low’s other co-founder and the band’s primary songwriter) gave us in their 30-year run as a band, we’ll look at covers by Low and covers of Low, and pay our respects to Mimi along the way.

A few months back, Nashville’s iconic Ryman Auditorium hosted two star-studded tribute concerts to Bob Dylan to celebrate his 75th birthday. Kesha performing “I Shall Be Released” was the big news-maker as her first high-profile performance during her ongoing legal battle, but many other members of country and Americana royalty also took the stage for an amazing couple nights. The full thing was webcast, but it hasn’t been archived anywhere, so if you missed that you were stuck with grainy YouTube videos – until now. We’ve got every song to stream below (except Kesha, which wasn’t webcast, presumably for legal reasons). For the first time since that night, you can hear pristine recordings of Jason Isbell, Kacey Musgraves, Kurt Vile, Emmylou Harris, Butch Walker, Wynonna Judd, Boz Scaggs, Langhorne Slim, John Paul Williams of the Civil Wars, Ann Wilson of Heart, and more covering their favorite Dylan songs, many for the first time ever.
