Anthony Green (singer for Circa Survive and LS Dunes), who is currently on a solo tour, has released a new 7″, where he is accompanied by Zayna Youssef in a cover of Porno for Pyros’ “Pets.” (AKA the band Perry Farrell formed after Jane’s Addiction broke up the first time.)

“I was 12 years old when I first heard this song,” said Green. “I only knew about Jane’s Addiction because of my older brother, Mike, who introduced me to all the cool music I grew up on. Before I even pressed play, I remember staring at the CD artwork and thinking it had to be amazing. One day, after playing “East Coast Winters,” I was messing around on these two chords and found myself singing this melody. Suddenly, everything clicked into place. It felt like I was revisiting the song from a completely different point in my life, where its sentiment somehow feels just as relevant — only in an entirely new context.”

Green has been playing “Pets” live for some time and his version is more dreamy and psychedelic than the original. The fact that the melody and arrangement are completely different helps with this impression. Green is currently on tour and, last week at the Atlantic City show, Youssef joined him onstage for another live performance of the song.
