British music student and electronic composer James Blake seems to have hit the sweet spot of critical acclaim. Everyone from Pitchfork to the New York Times shouts his praises from the rooftop, his minimalist dubstep-esque creations signaling the anti-M.I.A. We ourselves haven’t held back, last year applauding his tripped-out cover of Feist’s “Limit to Your Love.”
His latest cover for the BBC sounds much more conventional. Recorded behind a piano in a radio station instead of in front of knobs in his basement, “A Case of You” makes the argument for genuine old-school musicianship underneath the inventive production. The Joni Mitchell cover also showcases his delicate falsetto, too often buried beneath layers of hazy atmospherics. Download it below. (via We All Want Someone to Shout For)
