Peter Ferioli

Peter inhabits Oakland, CA with his three boys and wife. The first half of his life was spent on the east coast in the Philly/NJ/NY area, making the move west in '89 a week before the big earthquake! At age 11 in 1977 he saw his first concert, KISS at the Philadelphia Spectrum and his life was never the same. A deep love and passion for live music began decades of concert going, working for promoters and bands, putting on events, collecting live music, writing a cover-a day blog on MOG and most recently producing an indie benefit covers album for Oxfam America of Joanna Newsom covers, Versions of Joanna.

Back in June Cover Me premiered Kendra Morris covering Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game.” In that piece Morris foreshadowed her latest cover when she said “you can hear echoes of Dark Side Of The Moon in both the production and at times the way I use my voice.” Keeping with the Pink Floyd vibe comes an amazing soulful rendition of “Shine On You Crazy Diamond.” The song was written by Roger Waters, Richard Wright, and David Gilmour and is a tribute to former band member Syd Barrett. It was recorded for the 1975 concept album Wish You Were Here. Continue reading »

The result is Re-Machined: A Tribute To Deep Purple’s Machine Head.  There are two very differing versions of the album’s most famous track “Smoke On The Water”, one from guitar legend Carlos Santana with vocals by Jacoby Shaddix and one from alternative rockers The Flaming Lips. Taking 90s hip hop songs and doing a current indie cover of it has become a bit of a worn out novelty, especially the acoustic take. Over the last six months we have seen them release great covers of Beck’s “Guess I’m Doing Fine” and Paul Simon’s “The Only Living Boy in New York.” Now the band has re-invented a classic summer party song. The song “Wonderful(The Way I Feel)” was originally written by My Morning Jacket’s Jim James for Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem to perform in the last released Muppets film and tour, but was left unused. James said: “So now, twice, Muppet glory has been within my grasp…it’s pretty heartbreaking, but it did propel us just to kick into high gear and finish our own record.”  The record Circuital was released last May as MMJ’s sixth album. In the late 70s the Bee Gees were an integral part of the rise of disco. The brothers Gibb helped create the soundtrack and the title to the 1978 hit film starring John Travolta, Saturday Night Fever. The film was originally going to be called Saturday Night  but Robin Gibb suggested the title from a track they recorded for the film, “Night Fever”. Eventually the producer settled on merging the two and history was made. Two months ago Robin Gibb died after a long-fought battle with cancer, leaving brother Barry as the last surviving Gibb brother. Continue reading »
