Jaime was about six-years-old when she realized that songs could be stories (Lyin' Eyes by The Eagles blew her mind) and she's never been quite the same ever since. She once got into a shouting match over Prince's Superbowl performance, she firmly believes that the secret to life can be found between the bars of a Springsteen song and that the right Reverend Al Green probably gives the best hugs ever. She lives in South Florida where she spends her time overusing the word 'dude' and drinking good gin. Her biggest wish to sing karaoke with Rob Sheffield. In Memoriam pays tribute to those who have left this world, and the songs they left us to remember them by.

One of Walt Whitman’s most famous lines is, “I am large, I contain multitudes” and nowhere is this more evident than in Adam Yauch.

He was MCA – one-third of legendary hip hop troika, Beastie Boys. He was Nathanial Hornblower, Sir Stewart Wallace and Nathan Wind as Cochese. He was an MC, a bassist, a director, a film distributor, a punk, a hip hop head, a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, a practicing Buddhist and a staunch advocate of civil rights and the Free Tibet movement. He was a son, a husband, a father, and (despite being an only child) a brother. He was cooler than a cucumber in a bowl of hot sauce.

They Say It’s Your Birthday celebrates an artist’s special day with other people singing his or her songs. Let others do the work for a while. Happy birthday!

For a generation of teenage girls growing up in the early part of the 00s, Michelle Branch served as both counselor and inspirational figure. Her dulcet acoustic melodies salved many a broken heart and unlike the Britney-Christina-Jessica troika – she was not blonde, she wrote her own songs and she played her own instrument.
