Some of my favorite live covers are the ones where you can tell that the performers are having just as much fun as the audience. Such is the case with this cover, coming from the Boston, MA stop on the current Liz Phair/Sleater-Kinney joint tour.
During her encore, Phair brought out Sleater-Kinney’s Corin Tucker and Carrie Brownstein to join her on a cover of another 90’s band: Elastica’s “Connection.” The cover itself is straight ahead, but all three are clearly having a great time and have a difficult time keeping a straight face during the performance. (Especially when Tucker and Phair shimmied over to Brownstein to dance around her as she played the song’s outro.)
Unfortunately, if you were hoping to catch the “Flannel and the Fury” tour, the last date on the trek was September 25th. However, the delight that these musicians showed while goofing off together will hopefully result in more collaborations.
