The Avett Brothers opened their set with the perfect cover for a post-baseball game concert at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia. While the score wasn’t encouraging for the Braves (they lost that game 7-1 to the Tampa Bay Rays), the Avetts opened with a distinct clapping pattern that got Braves fans on their feet.
The clapping could mean only one thing: they were playing John Fogerty‘s hit “Centerfield.” This was only the second time the band had played the song (they also played it as their first song of 2026 at their annual New Year’s Eve concert). The song was also perfect for the venue; it’s what usually plays when the Brave take the field. Seth and Scott Avett traded off vocals and the resulting version was a fun opening for baseball fans.
That night’s set also included covers of Roger Miller‘s “King of the Road,” Earl Scruggs‘ “Foggy Mountain Breakdown” and David Childers and the Don Juans’ “The Prettiest Thing.”
