Jack Antonoff and his band Bleachers played Asbury Park, NJ’s Stone Pony outdoor stage during the band’s annual “Shadow of the City” event and, what do you know, Jersey legend Bruce Springsteen showed up for a couple of songs.

The “Shadow” celebration was originally scheduled for Memorial Day Weekend but needed to be rescheduled because of weather. However, the weather cooperated spectacularly and the show, which also featured Real Estate, Toadies, Grace Ives and Bike Routes went off without a hitch.

About halfway through the set the band started playing Tom Waits‘ “Jersey Girl.” A longtime Springsteen live staple, the crowd joined in for the “sha-la-la-la” chorus. And, almost a reward for knowing what to do, Springsteen casually walked out during the chorus, taking the second and third verse. After the Waits cover, Springsteen stuck around to sing Bleacher’s “Chinatown.”

Springsteen last joined the band on stage in 2022, when he popped up during a Radio City Music Hall gig in New York city. Bleachers are currently on tour promoting their new album everyone for ten minutes.
