Australian singer Vera Blue recently appeared on the radio station triple j’s popular program “Like a Version,” and offered up a take on a Radiohead song that never fails to haunt and move. She chose to cover “Creep,” off of Radiohead’s debut album. In her hands, Blue lets her strong voice carry a lot of the load, her singing accompanied by just a piano and guitar. Towards the end of the song, she plays The Pipe, a effects processor which is blown into. The strange, ethereal sounds of The Pipe adds an extra layer of melancholy to an already melancholy song.
Talking about the song, Blue called it an “epic rock song” whose lyrics are “heartbreaking.” During her appearance, Vera Blue also performed “Maze,” a new track from her upcoming record.
After first making an impression on Australia’s version of The Voice, the formerly named Celia Pavey decided to reinvent herself as Vera Blue. Her third record as Blue, Modern Rituals, is available now.
