Beatles tribute band The Weeklings have released their contribution to a new collection of Bob Dylan songs to be released by JEM Records. Their take of “Rainy Day Women #12 & 35” opens with (almost) acapella vocals and then quickly switches to a hard driving, slide-guitar version of the song, featuring a sing-along chorus. The song also takes a short detour into the opening verse of Dylan’s “Highway 61 Revisited.”
The band is made up of former members of Beatlemania, Styx, South Side Johnny and the Asbury Dukes and Max Weinberg’s Jukebox, among others. It’s a fun take on the song, which, sometimes can seem like it’s over-covered because… it will always get a big reaction when performed in front of an audience.
JEM Records Celebrates Bob Dylan is the next in a series released by the label. Previous musicians covered include David Bowie and The Rolling Stones. The Dylan tribute record also features performances by The Airport 77s, covering “It Ain’t Me, Babe,” The Jive covering, “Ain’t Gonna Go to Hell For Anybody,” and Paul Collins covering “Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again.” The album will be released August 21st.
