Meshell Ndegeocello has shared another track from her all covers album, Synonym. (A few weeks ago she shared a duet recorded with Cynthia Erivo.) This newest track features a duet with Cat Power and it’s a cover of The Human League‘s classic 80’s hit, “Don’t You Want Me.”
This version is a little slower than the original and features a really nice groove and a horn section, all held down by Ndegeocello’s bass. And Cat Power’s voice fits so perfectly with the vibe and tone of the song.
“This project is about classic songs that are known and loved,” Ndegeocello said in a press release. “The songs have diverse tones, representing various genres and intentional grooves. But the album is also about joy, selfhood, individual representation, and universal experience.”
The album also features duets with Chaka Kahn, Brandi Carlile, Chris Thile and ANOHNI. Synonym was released on August 8th.
Synonym isn’t actually released until October 2.
