Tesla have released a video for the newest single of their new cover album, Tribute. (We previously covered the first single, which featured the band covering Queen.) This time out, they’re tackling The Temptations with a cover of their song, “I Wish It Would Rain.”
“‘I Wish it Would Rain’ is a nod to one of the greatest singers of all time, David Ruffin,” said Tesla bassist Brian Wheat. “It’s a great song and I’ve always loved it. One of the things I’m most proud about Tesla’s version is that David Ruffin would be proud to hear Jeff sing it.”
The song is a sparse cover and really relies on lead singer Jeff Keith and his take on the lyrics. And the sound is one of the things that is most interesting about the record. “There are a lot of bands that can play. I’m proud that Tesla has developed the maturity to know when not to play. With a song like this, it could have easily gone the other way. We could have overplayed it and added all kinds of extra parts that would have been too much. Instead, we stayed true to the original arrangement.”
Tesla are currently out tour with Motley Crue on their “Return of the Carnival of Sins” tour. The Homage record is available now.
