The Black Crowes Cover AC/DC

“I know you can probably guess this, but we always love coming home,” said Black Crowes lead singer Chris Robinson towards the end of the band’s show in Alpharetta, Georgia. “Although I left Atlanta in 1990, so it doesn’t look like it when I drive around, but I know we’re home.” The show had already featured all the Crowes’ biggest hits and a collaboration with Kevin Kenny from Drivin’ n’ Cryin’ for a version of “Acceleration.” But the Crowes had another cover in store.

With that introduction and an “I hope you like it,” the band tore into AC/DC’s “Riff Raff.” The 1978 track first appeared on AC/DC‘s fifth studio album, Powerage. And, while no one can really sound like Bon Scott, Chris Robinson ably handles the vocals. The Crowes’ version of the song sounds just like it should: a fun, loud rock song.

The Crowes are currently touring behind their 10th studio album, A Pound of Feathers. Their tour, which kicked off last month and runs for much of the summer, has already featured a few covers. From the single release of the Stones’ “Star Star” recorded with tour partner Whiskey Myers, to John Doe from X joining in on his band’s “The New World” and guitarist Charlie Sexton joining the band for a cover of Traffic‘s “Feeling Alright,” it seems like the rest of the summer will be filled with tour reports of additional special guests and covers.
