It’s been a holy grail for fans for over a decade, a 2010 BBC performance by My Chemical Romance, and it’s finally officially been released. The band released their version of Pulp‘s 1995 song, “Common People,” in advance of a deluxe edition of their Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. The new version of the record comes out July 10th and will feature nine bonus tracks.
The song has special meaning for MCR lead singer Gerard Way, who has cited Pulp frontman Jarvis Cocker‘s writing as an influence. “It was very relevant to us,” said Way in a 2011 interview, “feeling like you were in a place you could never get out of, that you were never going to escape. I remember pushing carts at a supermarket listening to this song on headphones on a cassette player and wondering whether the hell I was ever going to get out of New Jersey. It speaks to regular people and that’s why it’s so great. And [Pulp’s] an amazing band.”
MCR’s cover has been popular among fans, so it’s great to finally see an official release of the track. The expanded version of comes as the band is currently in the middle of a tour celebrating their 2006 album The Black Parade.
