Margo Price Jesse Welles

Jesse Welles has a new record out June 12th, and he performed a free pop-up concert in Washington Square Park in New York last week as part of the promotion.

As if a free, surprise concert wasn’t enough for fans, Margo Price joined Welles for a cover of a John Prine classic. With Welles playing guitar and harmonica and Price providing percussion on tambourine, the two performed Prine’s “Angel From Montgomery.” With the crowd singing along, the performance is moving. (Even if Price accidentally started singing the wrong verse at one point.)

Was it planned? On Instagram, when Welles announced the performance, Price responded in the comments with “I’m literally sitting in Washington Square Park right now.” Either way, the performance was memorable.

Welles and Price are not strangers to each other. He appeared on her last album on the song “Wake Me Up,” and the two played with Billy Strings at last year’s Farm Aid, when Price included a cover of Bob Dylan‘s “Maggie’s Farm” as part of her set. Welles’ newest album, Masks Off is available June 12th.
