Death Cab for Cutie has a new album out titled I Built You a Tower. So, of course, the band has been doing a variety of interviews and appearances to promote the record. Lead singer/songwriter Ben Gibbard, along with keyboardist Zac Rae and guitarist Dave Depper recently appeared on SiriusXM, and, during their appearance, they played a cover of Hüsker Dü‘s “Green Eyes.”
Gibbard has been a long-time Hüsker fan, and talked about the influence both Bob Mould and Grant Hart had on him as a songwriter. The band has also previously covered “Don’t Want to Know If You Are Lonely.”
“Green Eyes” appeared on Hüsker Dü’s 1985 album Flip Your Wig and was written by Grant Hart. A live version from a show at First Avenue in the band’s hometown of Minneapolis also appears on the box set 1985: The Miracle Year.
