“If could do this every night of the week with Jackson, I swear I would,” wrote Ben Harper, talking about playing alongside Jackson Browne. The two teamed up again (they’ve played together before) at Truetone Music store in Santa Monica, California to play a cover of Warren Zevon‘s “Mutineer.” With the two trading off lead vocals, Browne played an acoustic guitar while Harper played slide. In any form, it is a beautiful song and this version does not disappoint.
The mutual admiration between Browne and Harper is a long-standing one. (They’ve also paid tribute to each other in concert, including Harper’s cover of “Jamaica Say You Will” last year.) “Mutineer” was the title track on Warren Zevon’s 1995 album. It ended up being Zevon’s penultimate album, before his passing of cancer in 2003 at age 56.
