The Troops of Doom have celebrated their sixth anniversary with a new cover of Kiss‘ “God of Thunder.” “We’ve used ‘God of Thunder’ as a pre-intro in our shows. Whenever the audience hears this song playing through the PA, they already know the band is about to hit the stage. It’s almost a ritual for us,” said guitarist Jairo “Tormentor” Guedz. “We all grew up listening to Kiss, so this track has always held a special meaning.”
The recording also features guest appearances by Chuck Billy (Testament), Andria Busic (Dr Sin) and Martin Furia (Destruction). Furia not only recorded the guitar solo, but also mixed and engineered the track. “God of Thunder,” first appeared on Kiss’ 1976 album, Destroyer, produced by Bob Ezrin. It was written by guitarist Paul Stanley but sung by bassist Gene Simmons.
The track is also the final appearance of guitarist Marcelo Vasco, who announced he will be leaving the group in May. The Troops of Doom will be playing two shows in South America this spring, before touring Europe for most of the summer.
