Harry Styles is in full promo mode for his new album, Kiss All the Time, Disco Occasionally, and part of that tour led him to the BBC Live Lounge. In previous appearances, Styles had indulged his interest in covers, playing songs by Fleetwood Mac, Lizzo, Wet Leg and Paul McCartney. Now, with his most recent appearance, Styles added Tears for Fears to the list.
Styles doesn’t reinvent the wheel with his performance, but it’s a fun take. Some horns come in at the end of the chorus to add to the energy. And, perhaps, most importantly, you definitely get the sense that Styles is enjoying himself. He also performed four of his own songs during his appearance.
“Everybody Wants to Rule the World” appeared on Tears for Fears’ second album, Songs From the Big Chair, in 1985. It reached number one in Canada, New Zealand and the US, but ended up capping out at number two in the UK.
Styles just announced a 30-night stand at Madison Square Garden in New York, starting at the end of August.
