The relationship between “Weird” Al Yankovic and Portugal. The Man is a long one. And the two added a new chapter last week in Brooklyn at the band’s show at the Music Hall in the Williamsburg neighborhood.
Yankovic first came out to join the band on their song “Life in the Moment.” (Al did a remix of the song in 2018.) Then, with The Lonely Island’s Jorma Taccone coming up dressed as Pee Wee Herman, the group tore into Rage Against the Machine’s “Killing in the Name.” The cover was, surprisingly, straight ahead, with guitarist Liv Slingerland doing a pretty good job of getting that Tom Morello sound out of his guitar.
“Weird” Al also joined the band onstage at the Hollywood Bowl in 2023 and in 2012 at BLAM! (the Bonnaroo Lineup Announcement Megathon). Portugal. The Man is currently touring behind their most recent album, Shish and their first set was a performance of the album in full.
