Orville Peck

Orville Peck has released an acoustic cover of “Maybe This Time” from the musical Cabaret. The cover was released as part of Peck’s new EP Appaloosa. It is the country star’s first EP since starring as the Emcee in the most recent Broadway revival of Cabaret earlier this year. The Emcee is the Master of Ceremonies, a symbolic host figure who oversees the Kit Kat Klub and comments on the surrounding chaos.

“Maybe This Time” was written by John Kander and Fred Ebb and originally recorded by Kaye Ballard. However, many people credit its popularity to Liza Minnelli, who performed the song in the 1972 film adaptation and included her cover on her debut studio album Liza! Liza!

Peck studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and performed on the West End before his musical persona, Orville Peck, was born in 2018. The country singer performs in a black fringed mask in all music performances, although the mask did indeed come off for his stage appearances.

In a press release, Peck said, “I grew up in the theatre. I was a working actor and a dancer for many years before I started making music…But it taught me so much of who I am as a performer and a person, so it feels very full circle to be making a return to it at this point in my career.”
