Lizzo sent her congratulations for the four Grammy nominations given to the cast and crew of KPop Demon Hunters with a flute cover. The pop star’s celebration included going back to her flute-playing roots and posting an Instagram video of herself (and her flute) covering the track “Golden” from the Netflix animated film’s soundtrack. A full-bodied, strong accompaniment from the Australian Pop Quartet provided backing on the cover.
The original song was performed by the fictional film band, Huntr/x (EJAE, Audrey Nua, and Rei Ami) and was written by EJAE, Mark Sonnenblick, Ido, 24 and Teddy. “Golden” topped the Billboard Hot 100 for eight weeks and topped the charts in over 30 countries. “Golden” is up for song of the year, best pop duo/group performance and best song written for visual media. The full KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack is up for best compilation soundtrack for visual media. And on a final note, this nomination marks the first time any K-pop girl group has been nominated for a Grammy.
Lizzo named her woodwind instrument Sasha Flute and thus captioned her Instagram post “’GOLDEN’ (Sasha’s version) congrats to @kpopdemonhuntersnetflix on all ur Grammy noms!” While there are no lyrics to this cover, it is a unique spin on a song many people have been listening to on repeat.
