Tim Robinson’s new HBO show The Chair Company is… different. The show somehow combines Robinson’s awkward, uncomfortable humor with a conspiracy thriller. Yet, it somehow works. And if the show wasn’t enjoyable enough, episode five included a great new cover: Aimee Mann taking on The Carpenters‘ “Rainy Days and Mondays.”
With a great evocation of the original, Mann’s version draws you in. Her warm voice is a great counterbalance to the sadness in the melody. Check it out below. It’ll very quickly envelop you. The song first appeared in 1971 on The Carpenters’ self-titled third album and spent seven weeks in Billboard’s top 10.
In other Aimee Mann news, she’s been working on the songs for the musical version of Girl, Interrupted. (The show will open on Broadway next year.) And she’s currently on the road with her Christmas show, which features Ted Leo among other performers.
