It was originally planned that Robbie Williams would be on a promotional tour now, with his new record Britpop. However, Williams decided to push the release to next February so as to not compete with Taylor Swift’s new album. But that doesn’t mean Williams isn’t out performing. On October 9th, he played one of his smallest gigs ever at a 600-person capacity club in London, and he made an appearance in the BBC Radio 1 Anthems Live Lounge.
During his appearance, Williams included a performance of Wet Leg’s 2022 hit “Chaise Longue.” His version was pretty straight ahead musically, but lyrically, he did some re-writing. In his version he sang, “I joined Take That, got a pop star degree” instead of Wet Leg’s “I went to college and I got a degree.” (Thankfully he still offers to both butter our muffin and worry our mother.) The song then makes a lyrical turn, with the band playing “Chaise Longue” while Williams and his backup singers begin singing the chorus of his 2012 song, “Candy.”
Britpop, Williams’ 13th album, will now be released on February 6th, 2026.
