In anticipation of their upcoming fall tour, nu metal band P.O.D. have released a cover that you may not expect: their take on The Beatles‘ “Don’t Let Me Down.” And while in the abstract that might sound like oil and water, their version, while certainly in their style, sticks pretty close to the Lennon-written original from the Let It Be sessions.
Guitarist Marcos Curiel said in a press release, “as cliché as it may sound, we’ve always admired The Beatles from the very beginning of our songwriting journey. Their melodies, the hooks, and fearless experimentation inspired us to craft our own take on the classic ‘Don’t Let Me Down,’ with nothing but the utmost respect.”
The Beatles’ version of the song was cut by Phil Spector from Let It Be, and it originally appeared as the b-side to the Paul McCartney-written “Get Back,” only appearing on their “Hey Jude” compilation album. However, the song was performed twice during the band’s famous rooftop concert, which marked the final live performance by the band.
P.O.D., meanwhile, hit the road October 1st through November 15th, supporting Seether and Daughtry.
