Galactic Empire

John Williams is an epic composer like no other… So what happens when the Star Wars-themed metal band Galactic Empire takes on the timeless and earwormy Harry Potter soundtrack song “Hedwig’s Theme”? Impeccably replicated harmonies, deep and quick drums wrapped neatly into a monumental-feeling metal genre-swap cover. Driving and unyielding, the five members have taken a classic theme and now put it in a Halloweenish, red glowing light.

The quintet consists of, true to their band name, Dark Vader (Lead Guitar), Boba Sett (Drums), Red Guard (Guitar), Shadow Ranger (Guitar), and Bass Commander (Bass). Through their most recent announcement, the group shared their excitement while also remaining in character. “Attention Wizards, Witches, and Muggles! The Emperor has commissioned our brand new single ‘Harry Potter’ for an official streaming release,” said Galactic Empire.

As it reaches the D section of the composition, it feels more like a breakdown than anything. It ends with a crescendo of guitar triplets and intensifying percussion. This version is a must-add to anyone’s October playlist.
