One of the fun parts of attending any festival is the possibility that some sort of unique collaboration will happen. And at the 2025 edition of the Bourbon & Beyond festival in Louisville, Kentucky, that’s what happened with the headlining act.
With The Lumineers closing the festivities on Thursday night, they brought guitarist Derek Trucks up to join them on a cover of Bob Dylan‘s iconic “Subterranean Homesick Blues.” On their current tour, the band usually works a cover into their set (most recent choices being Billy Joel’s “New York State of Mind” and Justin Bieber’s “Ghost”).
This unique collaboration slowed down the breakneck tempo Dylan plays at, making it a slow burn, one that only grows as you listen, knowing that Trucks will be coming in soon with a solo. (You can see two fan-shot videos below from both sides of the stage.) The song has been a staple of their set for years; here’s a version a few years ago with Andrew Bird.
The Lumineers are currently on tour promoting their most recent record, Automatic.
