Madrid‐based duo Hinds released a studio cover of “Girl, So Confusing” by Charli XCX with a feature from Lorde. The cover is already a staple at Hinds’ live shows, so a streamable version was the next natural step for the band. This release marks the one-year anniversary of Hinds’ fourth album Viva Hinds, a special album because it contained the band’s first Spanish single, “En Forma.”
Released on Charli XCX’s Brat (2024), the lyrics explore tensions of comparisons between female artists in the public eye. The Lorde-featured track added a tease about the friendship, or rivalry, between the artists behind the scenes. Hinds told crowds at their live shows that the song resonated deeply with them, both as listeners and as a group that’s been around for more than a decade. They criticized the music industry that pits women against one another.
Hinds’ cover of “Girl, So Confusing” shifts the song away from the polished electronic production of the original. They opt for a guitar-driven backing that makes the track sit perfectly alongside the rest of their full discography. The cover successfully reframes the song into Hinds’ signature indie sound. The crunchy guitar riffs give this studio version a live-energy feel. It doesn’t copy the original, nor try to outshine it. The cover simply celebrates another female artist.
