Ben Platt

One of the highlights of this year’s Las Culturistas Culture Awards was Ben Platt’s cover of Addison Rae‘s hit song, “Diet Pepsi.” But what did Rae think of the tribute? Thankfully, when she appeared on Zane Lowe’s Apple Music show, Lowe took the opportunity to ask her.

She said she had seen it and, the whole thing was amazing. “It was a very full circle moment because some of the people who worked on that song, I had worked with on my EP, so that was funny and full circle,” she said. Lowe followed up by asking if she knew that Platt was planning on performing the song? “I knew a little bit,” she said, but “I didn’t know exactly how it was gonna go down but I was very pleasantly surprised. Ben is amazing and has an incredible voice so I was very honored to see his rendition of the song.”

The public response to Platt’s cover has been just as strong, with him releasing a recording of the performance and trying to enjoy the response. “It’s been so bizarre,” Platt told Billboard. “Like, I’ve certainly had a lot of ups and downs and wonderful moments in terms of my career. But in terms of virality and having this moment that lives so specifically online, this is very much uncharted territory for me. And I certainly didn’t expect it to be this.”
