Marc Maron

Comedian Marc Maron has a special relationship to Taylor Swift‘s song “Bigger Than the Whole Sky.” Two years ago, while riding his bike, he was listening to the song and was so overwhelmed by it that he crashed his bike and broke his nose. This year, he revealed that it cost $50,000 to use the song in his most recent HBO special, and that all his efforts to reach out to Swift directly and perhaps get a discount had failed.

And last week in Los Angeles, Maron took to the stage at Largo and performed the song live for the first time. Sounding like a cross between Mazzy Star and Swift, the emotion is right on the surface for all to feel. In an Instagram post sharing the clip, the club wrote, “When you see Marc’s new HBO special, you will know that this song has a lot of deeply emotional meaning to him. Thank you for sharing, Marc!”

The performance was part of a performance Maron did at Largo, titled “Marc Maron Plays Music and Does Comedy and Has Friends Over.” Maron was joined by musicians Taylor Williamson, Paige Stark, Luke Paquin and Jerry Borge.

The song, which appears on the 3am version of Swift’s 2022 album Midnights is about expressing grief and sadness of someone the singer has never met.
