The Lemonheads are back and releasing a new album soon. To help build excitement, they just released a new cover of a Townes Van Zandt song on the b-side of their new single. The cover is of Van Zandt’s 1968 song, “Sad Cinderella.” The original version appeared on Van Zandt’s For the Sake of the Song album.
The Lemonheads’ version features just Dando singing a duet with Nashville-based musician Erin Rae. Dando has always had a way with country covers (see his take on The Flying Burrito Brothers‘ “Sin City,”) and this song is no different. The song was recorded in Sao Paulo by producer Apollo Nove.
The Evan Dando-led band are no strangers to covers. Their biggest hit was a cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s “Mrs Robinson,” and their last album (2019’s Varshons II) was nothing but covers. The Lemonheads’ new album Love Chant is scheduled for release this fall.
