Solo artist Snail Mail (Aka LJ or Lindsey Jordan) is a US-based guitarist/singer-songwriter who seamlessly blends indie-pop sensibilities with a dark tinge of emo around the edges of their sound. Snail Mail has been performing solo since the age of 15, and her stage experience certainly shows. Recently, she paired up with This Is Lorelei’s Nate Amos to recreate “Two Legs”, which was originally found on the This Is Lorelei album Box for Buddy, Box for Star. “Two Legs (Snail Mail’s Version) is to be released inside an expanded version of the 2024 album.

“When the idea of a deluxe edition with covers/collabs first came up, the literal first thought I had was ‘I gotta get Lindsey to sing Two Legs,’” Amos said in a press statement. “I’ve loved Snail Mail ever since Water From Your Eyes had a chance to tour with them, so it was a joy to hear Lindsey bless the song like this.”

Some have said the original “Two Legs” sounds like Ween. It’s got that lush, nostalgic indie texture with raw sensibilities, at the very least. This version of the plaintive and love;y song is even more gentle now.

In the hands of Snail Mail, we are treated to doubled, airy, oh-so-light vocals. The artists chose to keep the sampled old-timey textural sound at the beginning, but then (as the song moves forward) tweaked it to make it feel cleaner. It’s a similar backing track, but not exactly the same. This version of “Two Legs” has those nice stringy pings and interweaving moving lines, and while being simultaneously feeling…refreshed. On the whole, “Two Legs (Snail Mail Version) is a remastered instrumental with LJ’s vocals over top.
