French artist Louane has been captivating audiences for years… And now, she is set to represent France in Eurovision with her song, “Maman”. From her catchy aughts tunes like “Jour 1” and “Avenir” to her more recent and melancholy “Secrets”, it is no secret, in fact, that she has an extremely powerful voice. So what did she do with the alt/indie band’s 1988 track “Where Is My Mind?” The answer: go live, pare it down, make it softer.

Louane has decided to completely redo the song, replacing those initial strums with haunting vocal oohs. Not only is this Pixies cover creative, but it’s also done live in-studio with looping: The artist seamlessly goes from mic to instrument. Next up? A soft piano line. Finally, the main vocals. Simple, pure, perfect.

The guitar melody is still present, but the sharp wail has been replaced with a more rounded timbre and overall tone…And then there’s the je ne sais quoi of her voice..Is it the purity? The subtle accent? In any case, Louane has created something unique, genial, et magnifique!
