The Go-Go‘s filled their set on night one of Coachella with their brand of upbeat pop music, but in the performing of one of their best-loved songs, they also paid tribute to a performer of today. When the band played their classic “We Got the Beat,” as their final song of their set, the capped it off with a little bit of Chappell Roan‘s “Hot to Go.”
The new addition to the song came during the breakdown at the end of the song, (just before the part where Belinda Carlisle sings “everybody get on your feet, we know you can dance to the beat,”) instead of the traditional back-up line which repeats “we go the beat,” instead the band started singing, “H-O-T-T-O-G-O,” with guitarist Jane Wiedlin even attempting the spelling of the song with her arms. (The band also performed the mash-up during their Coachella warm-up show Wednesday the 9th at the Roxy in Los Angeles.)
The band was also joined on-stage by Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day to perform “Head Over Heels.”
