The Canadian band Sum 41 is calling it a day after almost 30 years. And in one of their final moments, they included a cover by Rage Against the Machine. After finishing up their farewell tour in January and released their final album last year, they just released a new session recorded at the Spotify studios.
The band’s cover of “Sleep Now in the Fire,” is b-side to an acoustic recording of their song “Landmines.” The Sum 41 version hews pretty closely to the original and sounds like a band having fun and not worrying about making this song their own. The biggest difference is the solo to the song, but the one here is able to capture the sound of Tom Morello without being a direct copy.
“Recording these Spotify singles has been an incredible way to celebrate with our fans around the world,” said the band in a statement. “We’re so grateful for their support and excited to share this special session with everyone.” This is not the band’s first time covering the song. They also played it at a festival in France in 2023.
