Pretty much every band now has some sort of a weekend getaway festival event on their yearly calendar and My Morning Jacket are no different. This past weekend, the band held their third annual “One Big Holiday” event, this time in Miramar Beach, Florida. The festival kicked off on Thursday, with MMJ taking the closing spot. After playing a few songs off their most recently released record, the band wrapped up the evening by inviting members of the Preservation Hall Jazz Band to join them on stage. After a performance of MMJ’s “Highly Suspicious,” the bands broke into a lovely version of British 1970’s funk band Cymande’s “Bra.”
The song, which comes of Cymande’s 1972 self-titled debut album, seems custom made for this sort of jam, as members of both bands got to solo and spread the song out.
Other cover songs MMJ performed during the weekend included Radiohead‘s “National Anthem,” Neil Young‘s “Like a Hurricane,” the Grateful Dead‘s “One More Saturday Night,” and Elton John‘s “Rocketman.”
