Gotthard is a hard rock band from Switzerland. With a career spanning decades, the group has built a strong reputation for blending classic rock influences with modern production. The collective recently shared its new cover, “Drive My Car.” This initially premiered on the TV show, Sing Meinen Song Schweiz, a reality program where musicians perform and present surprising cover songs to one another.
As the tune begins, the gritty guitar starts everything off at a running pace. Next up, hard-hitting drums, and finally, the signature vocals by Nic Maeder. The lead line is raw, rough around the edges in the most satisfying way. Despite its roughness, there is also a controlled precision to his delivery. The vocal harmony (which is doubled at the fifth) is more subtle and adds thickness to an already rich musical texture. In the hands of Gotthard, “Drive My Car” has now become a high-watt, driving rock jam full of Baroque pop-style harmonies, with hints of power metal.
