The Goo Goo Dolls rose to the mainstream with their album A Boy Named Goo in 1995. A new 30th anniversary version of the record is scheduled for release and includes a cover originally recorded in 1996. On top of the remastered album, the two disc set includes a full concert from Las Vegas, recorded March 10th, 1996, 4 B-sides and six songs recorded for the radio show “Modern Rock Live,” also recorded in 1996.
And it is during this appearance on “Modern Rock,” that the Goo Goo Dolls busted out a cover- INXS‘s “Don’t Change.” The song, which originally appeared on the Australian band’s 1982 album Shabooh Shoobah is considered the single that helped the band break internationally. It has previously been covered by artists Bruce Springsteen, Limp Bizkit and Brandon Flowers.
A live version of the song previously appeared on the Goo Goo Dolls’ 2021 compilation, Rarities and a studio version was on Greatest Hits Vol. 2. The special edition of A Boy Named Goo will be released March 14th.
It’s also featured on the soundtrack to Ace Ventura 2: When Nature Calls. When you work in radio you get all sorts of CDs that you’d never spend money on.
