You may have heard of Brittany Broski from her viral kombucha reaction meme or her podcast the Brittany Report. Recently, the internet personality launched a YouTube account called Brittany Broski Music with a cover of Harry Styles’s “Adore You.” Broski rose to fame through her personality and internet meme culture, but clips of her powerful singing voice have been present throughout her career in social media, so her move into music is not entirely unexpected.
The cover opens with a sexy guitar riff spilling into Broski’s low, sultry vocals. An even lower crooning backing choir fills in to elevate her voice further. The cover captures a different meaning to the song when compared to Style’s sunny, shimmering pop hit. The cover drifts closer to the rock genre and leans into the intense longing of the lyrics.
Broski’s reimagined chorus is the best part of the cover. Her vocal runs are intoxicating and powerful. The bridge is paired back, slowly adding small instrumental rifts and layers. This all leads to a final powerful vocal belt and lands in the final chorus to pack a big punch. The pace isn’t slow, but the way Broski’s voice elongates the words savors the experience in a dreamy rendition of what is lyrically a passionate love letter.
For the video, she opted for a stage set reminiscent of a renaissance painting. She stands center stage, wearing a blue corset dress that looks like it is straight from the top of Mount Olympus. The backdrop is a mural of clouds and a draped red curtain. The visuals do well in matching the seductive tones of the cover.
This version of “Adore You” is a rock song with a sprinkling of pop undertones, reversing the original pop song with rock undertones. It is an excellent cover from an unexpected source, a source that hopefully will produce some more great covers soon.
