Kiefer Sutherland Covers

You may know Kiefer Sutherland for his acting, but he is also a musician with three albums to his name and a fourth one, Grey, due later this year. Sutherland is in England recording a Christmas special, and during his time there, he also appeared on BBC2’s show “Piano Room.” The show requires its guests to perform one new song, one old song, and one cover. Sutherland performed his songs “Something You Love” and “Goodbye California” and for his cover offered up his own take on Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight.”

Performed as a waltz, Sutherland changed up the arrangement, opening with just piano before being joined by the BBC concert orchestra shortly afterward. It is not until the final chorus that Sutherland’s band kicks in. (Don’t worry, there’s still a version of the iconic drum fill, it’s just placed elsewhere in the song.)

Fans of the program compare it to appearing on Broadway or the West End; the show is designed to challenge and push artists out of their comfort zone. While you can debate the success of the cover, points certainly have to be awarded for the attempt. (If you’re interested in more Piano Room songs, Coldplay just appeared on the show and took on The Proclaimers “Sunshine on Leith.”)
